Funeral of Shane MacGowan: Crowds pay tribute as procession moves through Dublin

Thousands are expected to gather for the procession which will pass through the streets of Dublin at 11am. The route will begin at the South Lott’s Road Junction on Ringsend Road, continuing onto Pearse Street, passing Pearse Square and ending at the top of Westland Row.

From there the cortege will continue home to Tipperary and his family for a Funeral Mass.

The songwriter, who found fame as the lead singer of London-Irish punk/folk band The Pogues, died at the age of 65 last week.

The ashes of Shane MacGowan will be scattered on the river Shannon this weekend.  The river was chosen to reflect the lyrics of one of the Pogue’s most famous songs “The Broad Majestic Shannon.” Read more here

Mourners have gathered in large numbers in Dublin this morning to say their final farewell to music legend Shane MacGowan as they wait for the procession to begin.
