Gardaí search Dublin park for missing Jon Jonsson after receiving two anonymous letters

Gardaí are carrying out searches of a north Dublin park as part of the investigation into an Icelandic poker player who has been missing for five years. The development comes on the foot of information gardaí received in two anonymous letters about the disappearance.

Jon Jonsson (41) was last seen on the morning of February 9, 2019, in the Whitehall area following a poker game. He had just left the Bonnington Hotel on the Swords Road at 11am and there has been no sighting of him since.

This morning gardaí cordoned off a section of Santry Demesne, also known as Santry Park, to conduct searches of the area. It is located just over 3km away from where he was last seen alive.

The operation is involving specialist search teams who are being assisted by the Garda dog unit and water unit, and will focus on wooded areas and a lake in the park. Last week gardaí renewed their appeal for information about Mr Jonsson’s disappearance.
