Those with experience don’t set the bar too high in this maiden hurdle and ILLICO DE COTTE looks a particularly interesting newcomer for Dan Skelton. He fetched £100,000 after winning an Irish point by 12 lengths in March and has joined a top yard, so he makes plenty appeal on his Rules debit, particularly if he is strong in the market.

Bucksy des Epeires showed a fair level of form in France and could raise his game on his British and stable debut, while Tintagel Queen and All Authorized merit consideration too having shown promise in bumpers.

HEVA ROSE had some fairly useful form when trained in France but she has failed to make an impact over hurdles since joining Venetia Williams. However, her mark has tumbled down to 91 in that time, and she is potentially thrown in now having her first start over fences on these shores.

Furthermore, she represents a yard in very good form, and ran her best race in Britain on her seasonal reappearance last year. Presenting A Queen offered something to work on when third on chase debut and return to action and is feared most.

PYROTECHNIC showed fair form when winning a minor event on the Flat in France and he shaped as though he’d come on a bundle for the run and experience on hurdling and stable debut at Ascot earlier this month. He didn’t settle fully in the early stages and was left behind soon after jumping three from home, but he wasn’t at all knocked about and looks a sure-fire improver now.

This race is nowhere near as strong and he has the ability to play a part. Colours On Canvas shaped well on his sole start for previous connections in Ireland and is feared most.

Jamie Snowden saddled the winner of this last year and fields two strong candidates in GIT MAKER and Super Survivor this time round. Git Maker was a winner in points and also won three of his four starts over hurdles a couple of seasons ago.

He made a very good start over fences last season, too, winning two of his four starts, and his latest success at Catterick in January suggests he is still improving. He is 5lb higher on his return to action and he is seemingly the pick of Gavin Sheehan.

A race which to a large extent revolves around OPERATION MANNA, who added to his good record when fresh when bolting up in a handicap at Sandown on his return from eight months off nine days ago, well suited by being held up in a strongly-run race but still looking a long way ahead of his mark.

Connections have wisely turned him out from the same mark and he will be very hard to beat if in anywhere near the same form. Benassi was struggling a long way out in the Silver Trophy but can bounce back faced with a less-competitive scenario and pose the biggest threat.

GOOD TIME AHEAD was fit from the Flat and he belatedly returned to his best to record a second win over hurdles, benefiting from a more patient ride than the two that chased him home but still having a bit in hand at the line.

This race doesn’t look much stronger and he is capable of following up turned out under a 7lb penalty provided this doesn’t come too soon. Mi Sueno arrives in form and deserves respect, while handicap debutant Tellmesomethingood deserves a mention.

WOODIE FLASH is a point winner who improved markedly for a step up in trip at Warwick recently to record a second win over hurdles and, while this isn’t quite the same stamina test, he did score by 20 lengths that day and is likely to go in again having been raised 10lb.

No Tackle is of interest returning to the scene of his maiden win and Kyntara is worthy of interest starting out for a new stable.
