Fast bowler Josh Little, named in the Ireland’s 15-member squad for the forthcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies, will sync up with his teammates after his commitments with the Gujarat Titans in the ongoing IPL 2024.

Cricket Ireland have allowed Little to miss the three T20Is (May 10-14) at home against Pakistan and a tri-series (May 19-24) in Netherlands also featuring the hosts and Scotland. The Paul Stirling-led squad will embark on their World Cup campaign in North America beginning with a warm-up game against Sri Lanka on May 31. They are grouped along with India, Pakistan, USA and Canada in the first phase of the marquee tournament.

Squad: Paul Stirling (c), Mark Adair, Ross Adair, Andrew Balbirnie, Curtis Campher, Gareth Delany, George Dockrell, Graham Hume, Josh Little, Barry McCarthy, Neil Rock, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Ben White, Craig Young.

Fresh faces to the 2024 World Cup squad that were not part of the previous edition 18 months ago in Australia include batter Mark Adair, keeper-bat Neil Rock and legspinner Ben White. Among those missing out from the campaign that saw Ireland record wins over West Indies and eventual champions England are Simi Singh, Stephen Doheny, Fionn Hand and Conor Olphert.

“The squad is one that we have gradually developed and tested out over the last 18 or so months – the skill sets we need to cover are there, albeit we have allowed Josh [Little] to continue in the IPL until his side end their campaign, so he will likely join us ahead of the big tournament,” Heinrich Malan, Ireland Men’s Head Coach, said.

“We have an intensive block of T20 cricket coming up this month ahead of the T20 World Cup – we have seven games in 15 days as preparation for the tournament. We will not be treating those seven games as warmups, though, we’ll be aiming to win as many of those games as possible.

“We are now entering the final stretch before the T20 World Cup begins, it will be a challenging couple of weeks, but we’re ready to tackle whatever is thrown at us.”
