Kevin Mulligan: 70 years following my club, Dundalk FC – but can any of the provincial clubs halt the Dublin dominance?

When I watch Dundalk open their League of Ireland campaign against champions Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght Stadium on Friday night, I will be embarking on my 70th campaign following the club.

From my first in 1954-’55, when I crossed the road from my McDermott’s Terrace home, and crept under the gate to watch local favourites Joe Martin, Joe Ralph, Jackie McCourt, and a player, Seán Cunningham, who later wrote his own piece of history in another code on a certain day in Croke Park in 1957, there has seldom been a season when I haven’t become totally engrossed in the fortunes of my club.
