Man due in court as video captures horror crash during alleged Dublin drag race

A man is due in court after a car crashed into a pole during a suspected drag race in Dublin.

The incident took place shortly before 10pm on Friday evening, 9 February, at Damastown Way in Blanchardstown.

Two cars were filmed speeding down the street, narrowly missing a third car that was turning off an adjacent road, before one of the cars can be seen colliding with a lamp post in a video being shared on social media.

One person was taken to hospital to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, a man in his 20s was arrested by gardaí in connection with the incident.

He has since been charged and will appear before Blanchardstown District Court at a later date.

A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are investigating a traffic incident which occurred at approximately 9.55pm on Friday evening, 9th February 2024 at Damastown Way in Blanchardstown, Dublin.

“Two cars were involved in a collision, with 1 person taken to hospital to receive treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

“A man in his 20s was later arrested by Gardaí in connection with this incident. He has since been charged and is due to appear before Blanchardstown District Court at a later date.”
