The former Director of Dunnes Stores has passed away aged 74 while visiting Dubai.
He joined the Dunnes Stores group at a young age and his father, also named Ben Dunne had opened the very first Dunnes Stores on Patrick Street.
In 1981, the businessman was kidnapped by the IRA and held for seven days – he was released a week later after Irish businessman Patrick Gallagher paid a ransom.
His role in Dunnes Stores ended in 1992.
He also founded a chain of fitness centres in Dublin and Liverpool.
