Can Mohammed Amir play against Ireland? Explaining the Pakistan pacer’s visa issues amid reports he might miss Ireland T20Is | Sporting News India

Must read

Pakistan are set to face Ireland in a three-match T20I series spanning from May 10 to May 14. Following Babar Azam’s press conference on Monday, the whole Pakistan squad flew for Ireland, except for 31-year-old Mohammad Amor, who has been the only member of the squad who is yet to travel to Dublin, Ireland.

The Rawalpindi pacer marked his return from retirement in International cricket after making himself available for selection via a post on X. He was selected for the series against New Zealand at home wherein he showcased impressive performances, earning himself another selection, this time for the Ireland and England away series ahead of the World Cup

Why did Amir not travel to Dublin?

The reason behind Amir staying back has been because of issues related to his visa. Amir is a permanent resident of the United Kingdom (UK) and had applied for a Visa along with the entire Pakistan squad.

The rest of the members received their visa on time though with Amir remaining the only one to receive one and hence has been forced to stay back. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is currently working on the on-going issue and has been trying to find a solution alongside the Ireland Cricket Board.

One of the Pakistan management members, Mohammad Yousuf also had his visa delayed but received it just in time to travel with the squad. Currently, there is no update or a timeline around when Amir could receive his Visa but the PCB has assured that they are trying their best.

Provided the short nature of the tour before the squad travels for the four-match series against England, Amir’s participation against Ireland is becoming increasingly doubtful as time passes.
