There’s a lot of dead wood. MORDOR has essentially been disappointing given the level of form he showed in a Leopardstown maiden over Christmas but warrants another chance in a race of this nature. Le Coq Hardi has been a while absent but it was a good maiden in which he shaped with plenty of promise last time.
A drop in trip may not be ideal for BENJIS BENEFIT after his staying-on second at Downpatrick but 2m1f around here should be enough of a test and he’s well up to winning a race of this standard. Forever Frankie bumped into an improver at Tramore and has a chance if backing that up while the likes of Up And Out, Breagagh and Banada Bridge make each-way appeal.
Born Braver, Gold In The Rivers and Rocky’s Diamond are recent winners with the potential to rank higher but it’s hard to get away from LOOK TO THE WEST who takes a huge drop in class after chasing home Jade De Grugy in her last two races.
A decent contest. Magic Tricks was by far the best of these over hurdles and was second in a point. He’ll be hard to beat if taking to fences but OTTOMAN STYLE (NAP) ran well against useful opposition on chase debut and stepping back up in trip will suit. He’s been off a while but has a good record when fresh. Skippin Court has handicap experience and better ground will help while Sportinthepark is a fair hurdler who may well do better at this game.
Getting back on goodish ground looks a big plus for FAVORI LOGIQUE and his penultimate effort over 3m4f was highly encouraging. Shantou Show could be interesting off his mark if rediscovering the best of his form in hunter chases, while Sweet Will will surely come good off his lower chase mark sooner or later. Dorking Cock is another to consider.
Last year’s runner-up Focus Point has to make the shortlist and this is clearly a lot easier than Aintree last time. However, there are some improvers lurking and BALLYPHILIP hasn’t been overly pressed to win his last four points. Bold Fury (interesting in new headgear) and Victor Tango have a bit to find with the selection but both are respected.
A guessing game and the market will obviously be a help. POLEPATRICK represents respected connections and his half-brother won a bumper on debut a year ago. The Elliott newcomer Bowensonfire would have to be on the shortlist and others to consider are Native Deal and Tonaghneave Well. Jockey arrangements would suggest that Kilwaughter might be the most likely of the Crawford trio.
