An upgrade will commence on Knockavilla-Dundrum’s water infrastructure in the coming weeks, a Tipperary County Councillor has confirmed.

Cashel based Councillor Declan Burgess has in recent years been raising regular concerns about the impact of long outages and lack of investment into water infrastructure and the negative impact it is having on communities, particularly the significant issues affecting the Dundrum and Knockavilla areas.

“I have been in direct contact with Uisce Éireann management in relation to the ongoing issues impacting water supply in the Knockavilla area. I have been raising concerns and calling for a resolution to these issues,” said the Fine Gael Councillor.

“I have been very critical in recent times in asking Uisce Eireann why the reservoir in Dundrum is being bypassed and sitting there empty for several months. This move has created a severe strain in the delivery of a consistent service to the people of this area.”

“I am very thankful to Knockavilla Community Council and the residents this issue impacts for their patience and courtesy as I sought solutions from Irish Water.

“Following my calls for the water pump upgrades and associated works I am pleased to announce I have received a commitment that capital works will be taking place in the coming weeks.

“A new pumping station is required for this area and I am delighted to confirm a contractor has been appointed and due to start shortly.

“This is a combination of a lot of work but I am happy to deliver this necessary upgrades to the water infrastructure here. I will monitor the progress very closely,” added Cllr Burgess.
