Punchestown Festival racing tips and free bets with talkSPORT BET Ireland

Must read

Punchestown Festival got underway on Tuesday afternoon for the five day racing feast in Ireland, filled with listed and graded contests to see out the jumps in style.

The Punchestown Festival has already seen some incredible wins for Irish trainer Willie Mullins and a few surprises to the cards, including Fastorslow making it two Punchestown Gold Cups in a row beating Galopin Des Champs on both occasions.

Punchestown Festival tips

  • 4.15: Blood Destiny 7/2
  • 4.15: Gaelic Warrior 1/3
  • 6.00: Teahupoo 4/5

Blood Destiny

Bumped down 2lb for his third place effort against Spillane’s Tower who won at the Festival on Tuesday.

This horse has reversed the form with Spillane’s Tower before at Navan over his preferred 2m trip which he gets again today and is still very lightly raced over fences.

He was seen twice in March at Navan and Fairyhouse on heavy ground beating Spillane’s Tower by over six lengths over the 2m.

When seen again just 29 days later came third when back up in trip to 2m4f, which he always runs well at but still hasn’t quite added to his form over that distance when beating Heart Wood by nine lengths on chase debut at Naas.

Gaelic Warrior

Gaelic Warrior should have this race pretty comfortably based on his previous form against Il Etait Temps.

That horse has improved recently, beating Ginny’s Destiny by nine lengths, but that was over 2 1/2 miles.

He’s back down to 2m here and was over 13 lengths behind when taking that distance on at Cheltenham Festival in the Arkle.

And was also second to the Rich Ricci horse at Limerick over 2m4f too, which is why Gaelic Warrior is such a short price.

Trainer Willie Mullins has the front three in the betting for this four runner contest and look set to make it a 1-2-3 in the betting order.

Teahupoo

Then we head into the Stayers Hurdle which sees a rare sight, Mullins not training the odds-on favourite.

Instead it’s the rising star Teahupoo trained by Gordon Elliott.

This horse not only beat Impaire Et Passe at Fairyhouse in December but then went off as the favourite in the Stayers’ Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival and won well ahead of Flooring Porter.

He’s got grit and determination but it’s often tough to back horses in these sort of staying hurdle contests at odds-on, but this horse has warranted it.
