AROUND 35 jobs are to be lost at Three Ireland’s call centre in Limerick, the Limerick Leader can reveal.

The telecommunications firm is cutting around 150 positions nationwide as it bids to reduce costs.

Around 500 staff work at Three Ireland’s offices in Limerick at the National Technology Park in Plassey.

A spokesperson for the firm confirmed the job losses, but said a “small number” of new roles will also be created.

“These impacted roles are expected to be from varying functions of the business. Three Ireland expects to offer a small number of new roles at the Limerick office following the completion of this process and remains committed to the Limerick location in terms of employment, as it plays an important role in the overall functionality of the Three organisation in Ireland,” the firm added.

It’s understood all redundancies sought will be on a compulsory basis.

Three Ireland had previously said it had implemented a number of other measures to avoid having to cut jobs.

“However, the business continues to experience commercial performance challenges, with lower earnings and margin growth year on year, as operating costs continue to increase. The measures announced position the business on a stronger platform for the future, ensuring it can maintain its market leading position and will enable growth,” they stated.
